Because BB’s ship is called Saber de Xebec and Ace was Roger’s son without sharing his name as well.

Whitebeard says BB isn’t a D and Rocks was his captain. Makes sense that he’d known BB since he was a baby if that’s the case.

There’s a theory going around that the fruit BB has was possibly Rocks’ fruit and is why he wanted it so bad.

That’s the point of Blackbeard, except the point of One Piece is carrying on someone’s will to the next generation. We know Jack about Blackbeard nor how he can wield two fruits. Why is his ship called Xebec? Why is he not a real D? Is that his real name? How is he able to coerce so many strong people like Shiliew into joining him? Blackbeard being ruthless because he will do anything to carry on Rocks’ will makes sense. If he truly is Rocks’ son trying to carry out his father’s will it also works out story-wise too because Roger fought Rocks and defeated him only for a few decades later to result in Blackbeard -possibly Rocks’ son - defeating Ace - Roger’s son. Carrying on will and destiny is a big theme in One Piece.

Does this make the theory true? No, but it’s fun to think about and one of the more plausible theories going around now.

Saw One Piece Stampede tonight- wanted to take my wife (she loves OP) since it was only played in Japanese tonight and that was it. Since I'm still not following this series much, I didn't know who everyone was and what the hell all this "haki" talk was about, but it was one of those fun "here's like everyone from this long-running series popping up in one story!" films. I appreciated the original OP opening theme getting played, too.

Story-related spoiler question:
In the film, everyone is trying to get to this little treasure chest. When people open it, they get wide-eyed.

It's eventually revealed to be some kind of waypoint that leads to the island where the actual One Piece treasure is.

Was curious to see if there was a reason why "nakama" is frequently used and googled a bit. Maybe I missed something, but it appears that the general consensus is that some anime fansub group just decided that this was an important, "untranslatable" word on their own, and other groups followed suit, including official sub teams later on.

This kind of shit really grinds my gears- groups deciding what terms they think should be untranslated, that they're important enough to put their name on top of credits, adding their own stupid, mindless "translator notes," magical-animated colorful text in anime, etc. Stop. I gotta re-watch that Youtube documentary where the guy shits all over this stuff again now.

I already know about it and have bitched about it the entirety of my time as a One Piece fan. Been going at this since 2004 and nothing ever fucking changes. It was the original One Piece sub group, Kaizoku Subs. They refused to translate it and other words like shichibukai and now when you browse r/onepiece they'll say Gomu Gomu no mi instead of just Rubber Fruit.

In any case, I like the official translations and will always support them so I'm not miffed about this. It's much better than waiting for batches on the Null irc server every three months. Whoever bitches about this is spoiled.

Actually....

Zoro's name is based off the pirate and swordsman François l'Olonnais.

The western decision was to make it Zoro to avoid confusion. It was made by 4kids. In the original Viz comic translations it was Zoro. Blame 4kids for this one.

He will always be Zoro to me. It just takes getting used to when reading the Viz translation.

Real talk, the only problem with Viz is their interface. Go to Jaiminisbox or something and click a title. You get a convenient list of all the chapters available. Viz doesn't do that. I wanted to read My Hero Academia because it's popular and I figured it was time to check it out. I click it and I see something for volumes, when I want to read via chapter. Then there's three different MHA titles. Confusing. I should not be confused when I want to read a manga on your site if you want to compete with pirates.
