This gets back to a policy I'd like to see in action: The religious types are fond of saying the benefits of their faith will not be rewarded to non-believers. People who believe in nothing but science will not go to heaven. Actually, I guess they commonly state that we'll go to hell. OK, well, say I can live without heaven or hell waiting for me. What I'd like to see is them live without the benefits of "my faith," -- take away their benefits of science.

And I'd start with that toothless woman that had fertilization treatments to have kids, got a litter of eight of them, and then said, "We wanted a child... GAWD saw fit to bless us with eight." The animation is fantastic and the art style even more so, but this was mediocre all around. It uses the same joke over the course of 3-4 minutes. Why doesn't Wile try something new over the course of the short? I got bored by the second minute in. Still, it's worth watching if you're a fan of Merry Melodies/Looney Tunes. I chuckled.

Why doesn't Wile try something new over the course of the short? I got bored by the second minute in. Still, it's worth watching if you're a fan of Merry Melodies/Looney Tunes. I chuckled.

That short was great, really captured the feel of the old cartoons.

Not really sure how you can get bored by it when it's only 3 minutes long though.

People may laugh at him saying there is not a lot of bad language or insults, but at the time people were just happy to find that specified discussion, to find others with the same interest. It wasn't devoid of insults, but it wasn't the troll culture of now.

I will say this and this is relatively just recent history.

 I remember getting a Dreamcast online with 56k back in the day and the audience was different. It was such a small niche of people that it was a lot more friendly and polite. I'm not going to lie and pretend it was perfect or there were no assholes but it was a much lower percentage anecdotally. Once online gaming got really big it changed because the audience changed. It wasn't just  social outcast nerds anymore. It was everybody else. Which changed it all.

Yeah, well, that's pretty much it, isn't it? Once it became exceedingly easy for "just anyone" to participate in the conversation, once the barrier to entry was removed, the participants changed which inherently means the tone of the conversation can change.

However, with the increase in numbers, the likelihood of finding similarly-minded peeps increases. It's possible to find a niche-within-a-niche. That's why I like Evilbore and can't stand NeoGAF. We all seem to have more in common here than there.

Basically, it comes down to finding a group large enough to support extended conversation and discussion about a particular topic or set of topics, but isn't so large that it draws in people that are only minimally interested in actually discussing that topic [which leads to trolling, all-caps posts, and internet stupidity].
