he was a fabulist, but he was also a decorated Navy Seal who had a ridiculously accomplished military career.

Something the movie touched on (briefly), and Kyle's life and book show inadvertently, is that he was a guy who suffered majorly from PTSD, but didn't really have a full grasp on how much it had effected him. Yeah, he got kinda kooky there, and because of his death we'll never know why, but we (okay, maybe just me) sure can take a guess as to why.

anyways the whole controversy would have been avoided if Bradley Cooper had shown up the DNC without wearing that beard.

Trump can't win all the swing states: Ohio, Florida, PA, Missouri, Nevada, Colorado, Iowa, Wisconsin, Virginia, NC, and NH.

This is the absolute best I can see him going

http://www.270towin.com/maps/rDx4J

This gives him all the crazy close toss-ups.

But I don't see Ohio going his way, nor do I see Florida doing so.

What a class act.

It's not difficult to see why Russia would be willing to try to influence the election : The loss of US prestige on the international scene with such a president is bound to be bad, I'd suspect worse than W.Bush, and that's the best case scenario. Even on a short leash, you know the man will have terrible manners.

“I am committed to make investments to find the causes of autism, including possible environmental causes like vaccines. . . . We don’t know what, if any, kind of link there is between vaccines and autism — but we should find out.”

This in 2008, before much of the truth about vaccines/autism came out in 2010. It's also a different answer than the other three current candidates in that it shows a deference towards the scientific community and the scientific process. Try again.

This is election is way too close for comfort.  Like I don't even understand the white male people who are like "well I have nothing at stake here," if Trump starts WWIII, or even some more smaller wars and it's going to effect everyone.

And before anyone says WWIII is not going to happen.  I think it's very unlikely that a war of that scale would happen, but with Trump I'd put the chance number above 1% and that's still way too high.

Trump is an awful racist tyrant demagogue. But at least he presents a real face to what Republicanism has become/is since the civil rights era. At least the distinction is clear. You can't pretend anymore. In that sense its probably the most honest election we've ever had.

Trump is  the death rattle of the worst traits of the Baby Boom generation.

I still wouldn't mind seeing him win for the absurdity of it all. But that's just my disassociation speaking.

SHE LIED! Hillary’s Tearjerker About Handicapped Girl in Wheelchair in DNC Speech WAS ALL A LIE!
Quote
Here’s what I learned; The Mayor of New Bedford in 1973 was a guy I happen to know, Mayor John Markey (81 years old and a lifelong Democrat now living in Dartmouth, MA. Mayor Markey is also a retired judge and a man whose credibility and character are beyond reproach. “Jack” as he is known, is eligible for both court and municipal pension but only accepts one. He is not one to “double dip”. I called Jack and asked him a few questions about handicap services in 1973 at the New Bedford Public Schools, including wheelchair accessibility.

Quote
“I took over as Mayor in January of 1973. We had a budget for vans with drivers and provided services to students with disabilities. It was Tremblay Bus. They would pick them up and drop them off at their homes. Now, they may not have been able to go to the local school, depending on whether or not the schools were accessible for wheelchairs but there were many schools then which could and did accommodate our handicapped students in wheelchairs”.

“In fact, we had a local guy who was a paraplegic, injured in a diving accident who came to my office many times to advocate for the disabled and I actually spent an entire day in 1973 in a wheelchair to better understand the challenges they face everyday. Soon after that we were cutting out sidewalks for wheelchairs and doing things in New Bedford before the laws ever compelled us to.”

So despite the progressive and good works of the New Bedford leadership in 1973 to make the city schools and streets more handicap accessible, Hillary (no pun intended) rolled New Bedford local government under the bus last night in front of the world. And needed to lie to do it. It just didn’t seem possible in those days Hillary, because it wasn’t true in 1973 New Bedford.

TRUMP: Well, look, you know, I have my own ideas. He’s not going into Ukraine, OK?

Just so you understand. He’s not going to go into Ukraine, all right?

You can mark it down and you can put it down, you can take it anywhere you want.

STEPHANOPOULOS: Well, he’s already there, isn’t he?

TRUMP: OK, well, he’s there in a certain way, but I’m not there yet. You have Obama there. And frankly, that whole part of the world is a mess under Obama, with all the strength that you’re talking about and all of the power of NATO and all of this, in the meantime, he’s going where — he takes — takes Crimea, he’s sort of — I mean…

STEPHANOPOULOS: But you said you might recognize that.

TRUMP: I’m going to take a look at it. But, you know, the people of Crimea, from what I’ve heard, would rather be with Russia than where they were. And you have to look at that, also.

Now, that was under — just so you understand, that was done under Obama’s administration. And as far as the Ukraine is concerned, it’s a mess. And that’s under the Obama’s administration, with his strong ties to NATO.

So with all of these strong ties to NATO, Ukraine is a mess. Crimea has been taken. Don’t blame Donald Trump for that.

It's pretty clear Trump hasn't benefited from any of the briefings and crash courses his staff and RNC officials are (presumably) giving him on foreign and domestic policy. He constantly sounds like someone who hasn't thought about this shit for 5 minutes.

No wonder he doesn't want to debate. And unlike in 08 with Biden/Palin, Hillary won't have to use kid gloves.

Actually, except for Biden/Ryan, I've liked the VP debates more back to at least "Who am I? Why am I here?"

Trump basically has to get out of the one-on-one debates by any means possible. His bully tactics worked in the GOP primary, in large part because that's the kind of thing the audience wanted to hear, but to undecideds and independents in the general? Nah, he's going to look like an ignorant bully in front of a prime-time audience. Hillary's best tactic, if he tries to back out, is to just hit him over and over on being a coward for not wanting to debate, that would probably make him angry to change his mind.

I think you can't just do one debate with Trump. You probably want a second.

Chances are too high that he can steamroll for that first one and get away with it. Hillary will do better simply because you know it's coming and its just her but that's how he bumrushed the GOP and the moderators without consequence initially.

Trump benefited from a billion people being on stage during the GOP debates. He was pretty forgettable in the debate he did with just Kasich, Rubio, and Cruz. I agree he can bullshit through some of the debate with Hillary but overall he's going to look bad.

Hillary's best move would be to get Trump angry and also ask him direct questions.

Just not very interesting, a combination of personalities that I've seen. Plus I feel like it'd be a lot of tightroping their running mates positions on stuff. More so than usual even because of the outsized base issues.

I guess maybe if Kaine snorts a bunch of coke like he did before his DNC speech. Though then maybe it'd be like Pumped-Up Biden vs. Ryan. They both got more annoying as it went on and it lost its luster for me in hindsight.

Meh. The problem isn't really whether Crimeans ultimately want to be part of Ukraine or Russia (which I don't think anyone will dispute they have a theorical right to), it's that Russia more or less covertly lent an hand in forcing the issue to provoke a quick, messy and violent secession from an established nation-state in a region in need of stability then grabbed for itself a region with some strategical value. All that a few years after doing some of the same in Georgia.

At the risk of going Godwin, you could say the same for the dispute over the Sudetenland.
