An article brought it up a few weeks ago. So far though he's doing great without it, a set of local offices or a real organization, and that's with pocketing up a part of the spending. Don't know if it will stay viable or if it can be reproduced by anyone, but why change ?

Trump relies on social media and "free media" by always being talked about by news outlets.

I can't watch any type of news, whether it be local or national, because it's nothing but Trump stories. In past elections, it used to be that I couldn't stand the commercials, now I can't stand any of it.

This is in some ways the first campaign to internalize a cycle controlled primarily by the internet with 24/7 news following behind. Especially since both Romney and Obama were building off an existing campaign apparatus.

It's been to the benefit of Hillary, Trump and Sanders.

The media and the campaigns themselves are burning through stories/narratives directly to where they can't really even keep up. Nobody knows if they should stick to the Khan story or move onto Donald not endorsing Ryan or more DNC resignations or Hillary's lies on Fox News Sunday or Trump exposing how rigged the elections are or George W. Bush:

Not that I disagree but a lot of the coverage and drama Trump carries with him still happen on TV. His twitter made for good fodder but it doesn't have the traction of, say, his comments about the dead soldier's father at the DNC that he made on network TV.
The potential was always there for the saturation of 24/7 coverage, maybe Internet communication enables it.

I think the fact he is apparently able to run a campaign on a shoestring budget while alienating major donors is more noteworthy (though a consequence of the former).
