Trump truly is one of the most despicable people to win nomination by a major party in the US, certainly in recent history.

So is it right to say that this "billionaire" probably didn't earn a billion dollars in 15 years? Or at least that's what his tax forms say?

It means one or more pass-through entities in which he had an ownership interest lost lots of money (for tax purposes).

Despite being legally distinct persons, the income (loss) activity of these kinds of entities are included on the individual tax returns of their owners in lieu of paying federal income taxes themselves.

Looking at the latest round of polling and for the first real time I'm definitely on the its over side. Hillary simply has too big a lead where it matters and its looking like Trump's debate performance will be the nail in the coffin. He simply has too much negative press to present a coherent message anymore. He is no longer on the offensive and the majority of his surrogates spend their time trying to defuse whatever crazy, repugnant, racist thing he said today.

On a related note, I should get my mail in ballot sometime this week.

Trump won't win, but it's not going to be the blowout that many people predicted. Not enough to shake the party up.

I think the republicans are in a very weird spot. Everybody predicted that this would the election where Republicans would finally outreach to Latinos because of the obvious demographic future of the united states. Instead they doubled down on antagonizing that group. I'm not sure how you very easily tuck away the monster the republicans have created. These people who fed on the lifeblood of Trump's bigotry aren't going away. In fact they are arguably the most energized part of the base right now. This will be 3 elections in a row they have lost at the presidential level. That seemed unthinkable when I was a kid. There is no immediate and obvious answer to the republican woes during presidential elections at the moment other than praying for large scale terrorist attacks.

Still not comfortable with an easy Clinton win. There is still a lot that can happen. OPEC just agreed to cut production so you'll see rising gas prices leading up to the election.

I think the party heirarchy will always have a different excuse for each one of these candidates. McCain and Romney weren't "conservative enough" and Trump's excuse will be the mainstream media and not having total party unity. There's always these kind of side issues that divert their attention away from the real systemic problems their candidates face.

I think they can coast on waiting for the golden child to arise. A Rubio-type that embodies all the conservative ideals, but can effectively speak to middle America. Demagogue-lite with brown skin.

I really think it's going to take a full generation to die off before you see some kind of real reckoning.

Looking at the latest round of polling and for the first real time I'm definitely on the its over side.

That's pretty much where I am right now. Trump is just too far behind in too many states. Barring Hillary completely flaming out in the next two debates [which won't happen] or a massive terror attack [which could happen, but is unlikely], he just has very little opportunity to gain any real ground. And for all Hillary's problems, virtually all of them have already been hashed out in public for years, whereas it's clear that Trump still has a lot of secrets he's desperately trying to keep hidden.

TBH I don't even know if a "massive terror attack" would change things significantly for Trump. In the last couple "minor" attacks he basically just tweets out "Told ya so!" and it hasn't moved the needle at all, polling-wise.

The minor terror events haven't really had much impact, certainly not lasting impact, outside of the people directly affected, though in total I suppose they've added to a sense of unease and anti-immigrant/refugee sentiment. Something large scale could potentially shake people enough to want to vote for a totalitarian strongman who tells people he's going to keep them safe.

It was absolutely horrifying what this country slid into after September 11 and to a certain extent it's still going on (Syria / IS, for example). Consider how far Donald Trump has gone in a comparatively peaceful period and one where the chronic irrational fear Americans are predisposed to is only an observable symptom in its most left behind.

The thing is, the people who are susceptible to anti-immigrant/refugee arguments or that want a totalitarian daddy strongman are already going to vote for Trump. Anyone undecided who listens to anything Trump says, I have to believe if they have two active brain cells to rub together will come to the conclusion that he's too fucking nuts to be in charge of the military.

Trump won't win, but it's not going to be the blowout that many people predicted. Not enough to shake the party up.

It's going to be ugly. I don't think many folks are discussing the fact that Trump has zero GOTV or grassroots infrastructure. His HQ is going to basically be blind on election day as Hillary's camp determine where they are and aren't meeting benchmarks. Should make for some interesting case studies one day in terms of polling averages and what importance ground game has on election results.

I do agree that nothing will change. Let's not forget republicans commissioned an "autopsy" after 2012 and came to the conclusion that they needed to be more inclusive and less focused on the rich, job creators, etc. Four years later they nominated a billionaire racist misogynist bigot. They're going to have to take a look at their primary process, specifically the way southern states are stacked in late January and February. If not Trump, Cruz likely would have won based solely on the primary schedule and his position on illegal immigration.

Republicans aren't going to magically start liking brown people next year. To paraphrase The Wire, the base stay the base. Which means we'll get more obstruction and fear mongering, more intense anger over Hillary's inevitable executive orders on immigration (once liberals have a 5-4 edge on the SC), etc etc. And in four more years they'll throw out Tom Cotton or another extremist.

I went to the 'She's totally got this' side during the first debate from seeing some gifs on twitter. The look on Clinton's face said she knew she's already won. As others have said it's not going to be that massive a blow out but Don's not winning. Maybe the GOP will change their nomination process a bit after this so people with literally no experience holding public office can't try to run for the highest one in the land. Hillary is far from unbeatable, she's a mediocre public speaker at best and isn't half as charismatic as our current commander in chief, and the right's electorate basically handed the keys to the White House to her by nominating ...well, who they nominated. I don't even want to spend time slagging the dude anymore, I just want him to slink off back to his shady real estate and other dealings.

I think the smart thing for Hillary to do is to not bet on a landslide solving all her problems. Just point out that Trump was just a con artist all along and that she wants the first woman president to unite everyone from Bernie to "real conservatives" with her plan to improve America...social change yadda yadda.

Basically now might be the time to encourage voters to split the ticket between voting for her and for whoever they want locally. The goal being to have a congress that's cooperative.
