After I did the first questline with Kiera I explored a bit and found Fyke island and all the spooky ghosts. Thought it was p cool, just a cool spooky place, nbd.

Then I went back to Kiera later on and got her second questline and she was like "Let me tell you about this haunted island."

And to my surprise Geralt was all "Yeah, been there, wasn't so bad, nbd"

The fact that he totally acknowledge that I found the place was really impressive to me.

In this case, the proximity of the island to where you first get the boat really kind of encourages you to explore it, but it was pretty cool that Geralt has dialogue for stuff like this across multiple quest lines.

What do whores do?
My dad told me they do things mum wont
My mom hates to do the laundry
So thats what all the gentlemen do at the Passiflora? Get their laundry done?
I looked through the window once saw them all parading in their knickers
So why does my dad say the Passiflora is the best cause its got the dirtiest whores?

Killing me with these random quest levels. Finish a level 18 quest, unlock a level 10 quest. Some of these side quests should really scale up with you, or at least the loot should. I'm not convinced Poland understands numbers.

Skellige is so good, might already be one of my favorite RPG locales after just a few hours of roaming around.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
Sailed out to a small island as part of the quest to find master smithing tools for the dwarf smith at the Bloody Baron's castle. Immediately came upon the remains of a small settlement that had been partially destroyed, no one around. Wandered through a very narrow canyon with high cliffs on either side until I finally found a path. The path turned around a corner and I found a huge long ship under construction, guarded by a massive ice giant that was feeding raw meat to sirens and the survivor crew member of a doomed voyage, who had been forced to build the ship for the giant so that it could sail out and fight the gods at Ragnarok. Spent a few minutes talking to the survivor, who talked to the skulls of his former crew mates. Geralt noticed an arm that had been gnawed on. This wasn't part of my quest, so I pressed on. As I moved higher into the mountains, I found large footprints in the snow leading away from my destination. Getting a bit nervous now. Near the peak of the mountain, I found a large structure. Some of the walls had been destroyed, debris was scattered everywhere. Inside I found the giant's...pantry.

Well, she doesn't need the mutations because she has her blinking magic, right? No reason to risk killing her with the process, either.

The part where she goes to destroy Caranthir's staff is pretty cool. Aim at enemy, blink, dead, aim at enemy, blink, dead. It was like Flicker Strike from PoE. :uguu

It just FEELS so random, though. "See that red? Don't go to this area unless you're level 18.  Oh, you're here? 18 already? Guess what, you've just discovered a level 12 quest - but don't worry, it's already greyed out for you." :lol

Went to Skellige at level 19, dont want to be too overleveled for the main quest.

Goddamn what a beautiful area, arrived at dusk, the music, the scenery... So good.

@eel, thats a rare occurance imho and It feels as these are there so that people that walk about and discover places will have stuff to do

Having to find specific upgrade diagrams is an interesting idea and I think it gives a pretty good incentive for exploring and stuff. However I feel if that was the direction they wanted to go with they should have included a way to storage certain weapons/armor so you can come back to them at another time. Even if it was a storage box in Novigrad that you had to earn or spend a bunch of coin to purchase.

There is less land area obviously, but there are still quite a few quests there. Not as many, though they retain their quality.

Tip: some merchants sell maps that unlock the signposts. Only use those to avoid sea travel, don't hop around using the signposts once you're on one of the islands. There's stuff on the roads and off to the side that you won't see otherwise.

Great game, really enjoyed it. I only wish you could fast travel from anywhere after being out of combat for like 30 seconds (to prevent abuse). Riding around the same places can get tedious after putting 100+ hours into it.

It won't matter. I waited to do story quests till I had done all the side stuff, was 28 when I picked up Uma. A couple quests later I was 30, and I ended with 34 or something like that. They rain XP on you.

No, not really. It will only make sense once you get there.

FYI, there's a point of no return for some quests (Gwent being one of them, I think) on Skellige. They warn you when you get there and tell you to save. Recommended level is 22. I was 28 when I did that. It's strange like that. It would have made more sense to scale every enemy except the contract monsters and the ones guarding treasures.

I have so many open quests I can't see myself ever doing all that.

In some respect I would say that is a shame, or "bad" design, but in reality I think this is exactly how such a game should be. The game is so rich on content that playing through it feels natural and real. You won't get to see everything. You won't get to do everything. This is a real world and you're just making your way through it, in any way you want.
