The Bore has done a very good job of creating its own sustainable personality and community, unlike the other GAF offshoots except for OA. This is probably the best forum I've posted on, outside of a super small one back in the early aughts.

Used to hang out on the Pro Wrestling board over at GameFaqs along with WOT. The latter started out as the 9/11 board, then subsequently "War on Terror." That board has like a hand full  of users left at this point - it's categorized as a "Special Board" now. At the very least, going there gave me an interesting view on politics and how US conservatism gradually became bat-fucking insane over the last decade. Most of the posters there now are chill with a few towing the Republican party line and being made fun of for it.

I think The Bore survived because it replicates old school GAF well, mostly because it was founded by old school gaffers.  So anyone who was around in that time period (up to 2007) could come here and relate easily to the atmosphere.  OA has lasted a long time (almost 13 years) and for several years, it was much larger than it is now.  It seems like after the whole Amanda thing, OA just kind of sputtered out.

The problem is the kind of games show that places like Gaf wants will never be pushed as they'd be boring. I mean a majority of Gaf was even bitching about that Charlie Brooker games show that was on last week. I found his approach a lot more interesting than just a top 20 best games ever list.

The best gaming award show of the last few years for me has been the 4chan one which was genuinely funny and had no need to worry about offending game companies.
