I don't know what's more annoying, those threads or threads about some random tweet by someone loosely affiliated with the gaming industry.


It's strange, if users were constantly posting opinion that guided users to someone's website, GAF clamp down on it. But since it's posted to Youtube, it somehow gets a pass (even though Youtube clicks are still monetized).

It really is some of the saddest appeal to authority I have ever seen. I almost feel bad for the gaffers who have such strong passionate opinions and beliefs but can barely express them so they turn to youtube for validation

The problem is the kind of games show that places like Gaf wants will never be pushed as they'd be boring. I mean a majority of Gaf was even bitching about that Charlie Brooker games show that was on last week. I found his approach a lot more interesting than just a top 20 best games ever list.

The best gaming award show of the last few years for me has been the 4chan one which was genuinely funny and had no need to worry about offending game companies.

I tried watching one of the videos awhile back. I get that it's a character, but a character still needs to be funny or interesting in some way, not just loud and annoying. I feel like you gotta have some pretty low standards to find that shit remotely worthwhile. Then again, I'm not really interested in the opinions or shticks of any gaming community "personalities", there are better ways to waste my time.

Youtube game personalities are mostly all terrible. Unless you have a group like GiantBomb doing it, it's really not worth watching someones opinions.

I'd rather watch a commentary-less Let's Play over someone commentating it. Unless their commentary is explaining why they're doing something when they get stuck, I can't care about most of that stuff.

The only youtube show I enjoy is Classic Game Room; the dude was doing streaming video reviews  in the late '90 with a bud (when online vids were omgwtf)  and now he's been doing the same thing on youtube since 2006. He's a super relaxed guy with no gimmicks who really enjoy gaming. It also helps that he's like almost 40 and completely independent. Dude is a self made millionaire who ran ( is still running?) a corporate video production company and is super humble about it. He doesn't give a shit about subs or getting on the good side of gaming companies, he just wants to make quality reviews.

he also has the most badass gameroom background EVER when he talks.


His reviews are short (5-6 mins each),  no skits (except for his Christmas specials), no gimmicks, and no quickcuts. He's also 100% normal and socially well adjusted.

Yup, CGR/Lor Karnage videos are fun to watch. He's not a super anal nerd in that he's easy to please, doesn't get too specific and philosophical ("good graphics, tight controls, smooth gameplay"), and just talks like a normal dude. That's the secret to his charm— he's that laid back, funny buddy you have who enjoys games as much as you do but doesn't spend 12 hours a day reading/posting about them online.

The Wii era was really something else, man. With the noise that nintendrones were making about sales you'd think that the Wii had been doing PS2 numbers when in reality the Wii was nowhere near PS2 in sales 

Now that the Wii U is the return to form for Nintendo (shit console sales) the fans have reverted back to "it's all about the games!" talk.

PS3 early adopters didn't even have that defense to fall back on though. PS3 had shit sales and software for like the first 3 years after release lmao. It was hilarious how people did mental gymnastics to defend the PS3/Sony of 2006-2009
