Incorrect. Nintendo always adapts, and has been on the "they're going to die" hyperbole train many, many times before. It'll be along time before Nintendo dies.
I don't think that's true anymore. Nintendo's blueprint has been handheld dominance and a strong console presence. The problem now is that handhelds are slowly being taken over by mobile phone gaming, a market that Nintendo can't enter; no one expects a Nintendo Phone, nor do they have the clout to do that. Likewise Nintendo has made a blatant decision not to play the escalation game in the console realm, tech wise, which has left them behind with their last two consoles. The WiiU has very little longevity due to its tech, is dead in Europe, and dying in the US.
In order for Nintendo to evolve now, they'd have to completely change their business model. I don't see that happening, therefore I definitely believe they're going to suffer a slow march to irrelevance.
If Nintendo was smart they'd scrap the WiiU in a couple years and release a $100-120 Roku type streaming device. Virtual Console support, free Angry Birds type games, 3DS integration, all alongside the movie/tv/etc streaming provided by the Roku. They'd likely have to partner with someone, but I think this is a far better idea than releasing games on smartphones, at least not right now. Maybe in the future.
