If I was working out on a regular basis I'd probably be fine eating some rice or potatoes with my meat and green vegetables.

But because of my wagecuck lifestyle I'm basically sitting in front of a computer for at least 10 to 12 hours a day. :brazilcry

So no carbs (except unsalted nuts) for me until cheat day on Friday or Saturday.

Again to see the best results don't process anything after 6pm(or 4-6 hours before you go to bed) and eat heavy within 2 hours of waking up , trust me. If you do this and manage to walk over 2 miles a day you'll lose weight within a month.

There are about seven Marvel-related threads on the first page of OT, and then there's the DC threads. But I guess that's pretty normal these days.

What about small or healthy meals after 6pm? I like making a dish where I sauté some salmon and veggies (onions, peppers, garlic, bit of ginger). That's probably fine after 6pm?

Or should I stick to protein shakes if I need something after 6pm?

You really should not be eating anything 4-6 hours before you sleep. However if you're a late night sleeper (Like bed at 12am) then that food at 8 isn't going to kill you.

No, it worked perfectly. It was all an elaborate scheme to get complete strangers to send me a care package of used video games.

So far it looks like a complete success.

I thought "plenty of people take work off for stuff like this" and then remembered that they're talking about taking it off to sit at home and watch streams and not actually going.

how do these people still have jobs

I took off work in 2006 for E3 (I managed to use my defense industry wargaming/"serious games" job as a way in). :P

But there's nothing wrong per-se with a "staycation"... If you have the vacation days, use them. Some jobs won't cash you out and they go to waste if you don't.

I take the day of Nintendo's keynote off every year. I don't really get to treat myself to PTO often. :yeshrug I probably could (and probably should), but I catch guilt so meh.

I wake up late, catch the keynote, then take a good nap. There's worse ways to spend a weekday.

I've only ever burned a week at most (not by choice).
I'll rest when I'm dead, thanks.

Seriously though, NeoGAF would benefit from having a "Social Justice" sub forum so that people who want to participate can, and those who don't can have their video game chat without politics mucking it up.

No. Then you're speculating. Stop.

Also OP did a pretty good job raising a lot of great points about frustrations and underlying problems within the game community that have become impossible to ignore over time, and if the only thing you can take away from it is this, I got nothing.

Also, come on. This is the FOURTH thread and this is still happening. Unbelievable.

Just within 77 posts they mass bah-leet: 28 or so before locking the thread. :doge Fabulous job, mods. "Careful moderation," indeed. :doge :doge

Yup. Calories in, calories out.

The paleo diet isn't bad as such, but the philosophy behind it is stupid.

Carbs are necessary for building and maintaining an athletic build and the energy required to condition it.

Eliminating carbs is like replacing your oil in your engine with crisco. It'll work for a while but eventually you'll break down.

As for processed foods: It's okay in moderation, but don't be that guy who eats taco bell and mcdonalds 4 times a week either.

Don't forget, same forum that did (and still does) have people that parrot: "Fruit is literally poison!"

I probably said "sugar is poison" on GAF at some point, I was too wrapped up in the bullshit absolutism of fad diets.

The truth is that out of all the topics that get frequent play on GAF - relationships, money, jobs, politics, social issues... it's the exercise/nutrition threads that are the worst.  By far.  And it's not just GAF, it's one of the Internet's worst topics.

They think they can ban their way to a healthier life.  Ban sugar, ban soda, ban this, ban that.  Get off the couch and work out.  And I don't mean what passes for "working out" at your local LA Fitness.

Fortunately 99%+ of people who play video games don't know or care what gamergate is.  It's mostly just a bunch of angry nerds flinging shit at each other that could be solved by all parties involved staying off the internet for two weeks.

I think this Rapp thing is the first time GAF mods have straight up said a topic of discussion is off-limits. Sure, they've banned people for continuing to harp on things, or moderated out right-wing viewpoints, but this is the first time since I've been there they've just flat out said any discussion about it from anything besides "fuck GG" will end in a ban. It's an extremely childish way of handling the entire situation. Ducking inconvenient facts isn't and shouldn't be a progressive hallmark.

Wait so this Allison Rapp was working as an escort?  :lol

Sure this may have never been uncovered without GG wankery, but it's no surprise a family oriented company would fire you for that  :lol

Who actually knows? Nobody is allowed to talk about it. It's verboten. I find it very interesting that if you don't think escorts should be the public face of a children's toy company it's framed as misogyny. Pretty fucking disrespectful to the millions of women still trying to make strides to be taken seriously by men who value women as little more than sex objects, in my view.

Hell, I don't even have an issue with her making the choice (that that anybody gives two fucks what WW thinks) to be an escort. If it's true, that's her decision and it's her life. But Nintendo - like every single other company on the face of the earth (sans sex industry stuff, natch) is not going to allow their employees to moonlight as prostitutes. That goes quadruple for any industry that is primarily about kids. Banning any discussion on how the world rightfully wants a barrier between the sex industry and children is absolutely crazy to me.

I am not certain it is that childish. The reasons could be :

- It would turn GAF, no matter how good the intent and no matter if the latest info is real or fake, into a massive signal boost for what is very possibly an ongoing harassment campaign (and not even one with the fiction of being activism since the moment Rapp lost her job). Beyond the moral concern, someone said upthread there could also be legal ones for GAF.
- The GAF collective absolutely do not have the levity or manners to discuss it properly anyway. Would be a shitshow to moderate.

For as much as we laugh about the "nexus" blurb header on top of GAF, I don't think the GAF admin team really believes that. GAF is neither a scientific or journalistic outlet, the pursuit of truth is not a trump-all consideration for it. It's handled in a pretty ham-fisted way, I'll give you that, but I don't think it's a first.

NeoGAF allows its members to talk negatively about celebrities, politicians, game developers, public relations folks, media, etc, etc, etc. They are not honestly concerned over any legal ramifications. NeoGAF.com is not allowing harassment to continue by allowing discussion of a topic. No, it's very clearly moderation that has a personal view on a matter and has clamped down on the topic. That's their prerogative. It's their house. That doesn't make it morally right.

And all discussion is "signal boosting." Disallowing one is disallowing the other.

EDIT: You're right about the nuance. There are plenty of people who would just discuss it, but I can see plenty of others flying off the handle and doing some dumb shit on all sides of it. You're probably right in that they just felt it was too much effort.

I'd argue it's not exactly the same thing as celebrities though. Celebrities are in another sphere altogether, talking shit about them is inconsequential or at least perceived as such (whether it's actually true... who knows ?). Yeah every discussion is a signal boost, but really do NeoGAF airing the latest allegations and photos of any use to the matter of hand ? This info is still out there for those who wish to find it.

It doesn't settle once and for all the actual main debate on GAF either (Should a company ignore info depending on where/why it is coming from ?), which will stay largely hypothetical because the actual timeline of what Nintendo knew, when and how will probably stay with the company and Rapp unless it ends up in court. So does the actual level of support (or absence of) she received from her colleagues or her management.

But anyway, I'm not privy to whatever reasoning is behind the discussion being curtailed. By design, moderator policy on GAF is always driven by personal opinions of the staff, so it wouldn't be surprising it's in the mix, it happened in the past.

EDIT : To be clear, I also agree that it turns GAF into another kind of echo chamber, just a slightly less toxic one.

What a hilarious shit show. Banning the dude that (correctly) pointed out she was an escort. Allowing a bunch of ignorant people to dogpile the guy, even though he's polite, reasonable, and the only one telling the truth.

This is a neutral ground where facts and evidence, presented within the confines of civil, inclusive discourse, disappear through careful moderation.

Nintendo doesn't owe anyone a further explanation of what happened.  To them, the matter was resolved days ago and have moved onto other matters, such as trying to find a way to con gamers with their new shitty console they're developing.  They are a professional company and as such will never fully disclose why they decided to terminate someone.  That's in the best interest of both the employer and the former employee.

NeoGAF's user base doesn't quite get this because it's full of losers who will never amount to anything in life, which is why they take shit like this super seriously and feel that a faceless publicly traded multibillion dollar corporation needs to adhere to their straitjacketed views on stupid bullshit like gamergate.

Combine 1 part directed moderation and 1 part anxiety over losing your only social interaction and you can make your own narrative cake.

This is incredibly true - but I think online people don't make the distinction between who is a celebrity and who isn't. To some people if you've made yourself public you've made yourself fair game and it feels like that's only getting worse.
