I mean I saw a dude blatantly alt-right shitpost and he wasn't banned until he was warned 3 times.

Not saying they're ban happy, just that, at the time, this was over five years ago, they were very much happy to jump into shit-talking and stuff like used to run free in NBA-GAF, and tell everyone to cool it and shut it down, multiple times, and from some of the most notable people who did that kind of thing pre-Salent just because they were admin/mods. And it's cool, their forum, their rules, but I felt it wasn't going to keep the vibe I wanted and they suggested which was NBA-GAF. I'm sure it was fine and everything, but a more strict Laker-fan-dominated pieces of NBA-GAF was not in my interests to keep up with it daily, especially when it would go dead for many of my prior favorite hours since not everybody moved over, and it fell by the wayside. And I wasn't inspired to return.
I’ve been lurking for years, and I still don’t get some of the board culture here, but youse guys are an alright bunch for sure. Is this a free-speech forum, any specific rules? I never like to assume, even after lurking.
The Bore is pretty much self-regulating, like look earlier where I fired a semi-serious sounding shot at hunter, was no biggie really and he could have totally ignored me and what I suggested and I would have ignored it too. Or you go into a thread and say an opinion that most everyone else finds dumb it'll get shat on. Or it may start a debate among users. In that regard it's very liberal in its free speech acceptance.
But if you are shitting up threads deliberately with no clear purpose other than that, start posting porn or whatever outside the designated thread, start running a Final Fantasy ARG, or just freak out, then our heavily powered mod crew will delete it, and potentially ban you, or worse leper you.
But to return to the original thing with a better example since I thought of it as I was typing, we had a couple Gamergate threads, people threw down both seriously, half-seriously, way too seriously and not seriously at all. One dude, etoliate took a bunch of shit, and he's come back, has taken shit and still hangs around, and really if he ignores certain topics nobody jumps on him for it. Another dude, maybe a couple i forget, took it and left, then came back trying to brag or something and got shit on again and took his ball and went back home for good. And it's not because we're all social studies warriors and etoliate and this other guy are the only ones. It had to do with the way they went about their arguments, the specific claims they were making, etc. On some stuff, like the broader gaming journalism is trash aspects, you'd find agreement here even before Gamergate existed, but some of the stories and targets and so on, it could seem more one sided. And yet at the same time, we do a lot of joking about GAF's paranoia about SECRET Gamergators the last couple years. And a lot of this is all the same people.
The reason people complained about the other nights argument over GAF and social studies warriors is that it's been done to death by the regulars here and people wanted the thread to be about GAF falling apart rather than having those arguments anew. If people want to have those arguments, start a new thread where it can be contained and others can avoid it. Like lots of people do with this thread because they don't give a shit about ragging on GAF anymore. Though some of us use it mostly as awkward social bonding through a shared subject.
When the thread slows down, and riff-raff head back to GAF or elsewhere, and we don't have hundreds of people viewing at all times instead of say 30 (which is still sorta high) this thread will go back more like it was before this implosion.
Check out any of the rest of the threads on here you might be interested in, politics, TV shows, movies, or the whole gaming section that's rumored to exist and you can see the more laid back, discuss shit, maybe things flare up for a page or so then die off, style of the place rather than this hundred posts a minute pace this thread has been operating at with gobs of juniors and GAF focused people posting.
