Apparently some NeoGAF users are getting their accounts banned because they used to verify their Discord ID by PMing other GAFfers with their Discord credentials, in order to prove their identity and be able to register on the new forum. It's not clear if some mods are manually banning those people or if there's some kind of script. What's certain is that someone high up is deliberately going through them, and that's a huge invasion of privacy and breach of trust.

The main problem with resetera for people like Lime etc is that it will be full of the most 'pure' of gaffers. The main pull of gaf is that their were non believers to convert, argue and dogpile and get banned and then a fresh crop every few months. Who is there to target and argue with on resetera? each other?

Many of the most showboating members are going to miss all those views there threads would have from Gaf members and others browsing off topic. Guarantee you some will staying.

Some well informed people are suspecting that some mods and a few members were preparing to leave some time ago, when Evilore made a post about "the left turning on itself" and the fact that he called out a mod for banning users that disagreed with him. Those people were just waiting for an opportunity and the rest is history. They felt neogaf was not a "safe" (read "the perfect echo chamber") place anymore because Evilore changed side a little. Malka isn't an extremist leftist like the worst of gaf, so those members and some mods never liked him that much, they were just afraid of speaking their mind but the "shower" story was the perfect occasion to make their plan.
