Unsurprisingly, that Donkey Kong show was made by the French.

I should still have the VHS tape of the Donkey Kong show, think they gave it away for free with one of the games. I'm used to the dutch voice actors though.

He makes a good point too, that Retro Studio's new game was totally MIA.  They could've at least splash screened the title or something like they did with Prime 4 and Bayo 3.

I read that Ulillillia had "improved" and was living on his own.  Decided to see what was up to and found out he quit Youtube a few years ago, but people have archived his stuff and have posted videos from FB or whatever.  Dude got over his fear of water and loves swimming now...but everything else seems to be the same, fear of mirrors and chairs and all.  And then he moved back in with his parents.  And except instead of videos on gaming, instead you get videos of him showing how he meticulously picked up trash from an alleyway or swam across a late with the same kind of narration as that Bubsy video.  At least he tried to strike out on his own and get a job- still better than like 90% of RE.

I just must be stupid because I straight up don't understand what was wrong with it.

Oh wow, Dunkey edited together the times a character said 'your excellency' over an hour long story chapter. That sure does show something, I guess. Hell if I know what it was.

Dunkey's whole shtick has gotten old fast for me and my friends. At first it was novel but now I'm kind of over it. Especially after H3H3 podcast interview where he came off as a spectacularly uninteresting person.

That's cause they are crap stuck in the past and need some reinventing. It's quite telling that people still want "that one game" that was released two decades ago etc.

I think I've come to the conclusion that I only keep playing them because they're the only types of games I can play on my phone emulators.  Touch screen for anything else is total ass and unplayable.

:yeshrug

I still think Dunkey is hilarious (and actually enjoyed the video) but I'm loving Octopath Traveler. However I have always loved turn based rpgs. Part of getting older and self-awareness is realizing that not everything is for you, and it's ok to have specific tastes and just enjoy what you enjoy. Like, I know for a fact that I hate games with long dumb cutscenes that interrupt the action (cut scenes in turn based games are fine, probably because "the action" is different and it doesn't bother me to have that interrupted by long narratives) so I will never, ever bother playing another Kojima game. Why would I do that to myself? I hate shit like that. There's literally no reason for me to even watch a Death Stranding trailer, and I haven't. I just don't care.

I mean how can you disagree? Random battles in 2XXX is fucking awful and JRPG developers need to look at Persona 3, 4, 5 and Final Fantasy 12 to see that having enemies on the board just makes for more engaging tactical play.

Even Pokémon, notoriously stuck in its ways as it is, is moving away from random battles (and has been since Black and White.) Though I'd argue Pokémon's random battles aren't as bad because they're avoidable (either by avoiding tall grass, or by using Repels.)

Also; Dragon Quest IX (and later instalments), Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, Xenoblade. I can't think of a single jrpg where i wouldn't prefer if i could see enemies on map. Fuck random encounters.

Wouldn't have thought otherwise.  It's insane how people are quick to turn on someone for not liking a video game even remotely on Youtube and the like.  :lol

I agree with you 100% on this kind of opinion here.  Can't say I am particularly thrilled for Death Stranding, either...because they haven't shown us what the hell the game itself actually is!  :lol  As I get older, the one type of game that I get more and more tired of seeing are the "AAA" overly-cinematic single-player action games.  I just want to boot a game up and shoot some shit or jump around or whatever, not watch a 30 minute cut scene and then go through an hour long tutorial.  :-\

I imagine random encounters were originally borne from a technical constraint that caught on because tradition and didn't change for way too long, and will only be adhered to in future by misguided nostalgia fests.

Aeana from GAF would aggressively challenge this notion, but I think in general it bears somewhat true.
