Agreed. If the "War on Drugs" must continue, then they need to start putting actual rehab clinics into prisons. Not just for drugs, but for life rehabilitation too.
(or, you know, stop putting people in jail that are addicted and not causing violence/theft/etc, and throw them into rehab)
Pretty sure they do have rehab clinics in prisons and drug users who aren't causing violence/theft/etc. are funneled into rehab.
This was a pet peeve of mine on GAF. People can list all the ways the justice system historically and continues to fail us but they have no actual understanding of the court system or what actual punishment criminals face. Whenever it's a thread about drunk driving it's "I heard that even if you kill a family of four you don't get jail time." A cop is found guilty of rape, "I bet he gets a pardon." A frat boy says the N-word, "He should be sent to jail."
Every crime should either be sentenced 10x as harsh or 10x less but they have no clue what the average actually is.
This is what drove me crazy.
I was a correction officer for a prison in Arizona. I tried my damndest to explain how prisons work but basically got shouted down by everybody else on GAF telling me I didn't know what I was talking about. I'm like "I worked at a prison. And just because you watched Oz on HBO or saw Shawshank Redemption doesn't give you any insight. And in fact you have a very wrong opinion on what you think prison is like". But they kept saying that my work experience in a prison was just anecdotal evidence and I'm a racist. I spent plenty of hours watching inmates doing rehab work, getting education or utilizing other programs in prison. There's programs in prisons and some of them are even mandatory for inmates but like they say you you can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink.
You know what's funny? I was in an anti gang unit and worked undercover against the Aryan Brotherhood. This was back in the 90s but I may still have a bounty on my head from the work that I did. But to some any white guy with a badge is a racist piece of shit. Full Stop!!!
Even that shit bag pedo Amirox was posting inmate surveys as proof of something. I tried to tell him it's like asking a Junior High kid to fill out a survey about his teachers and school. Not really the most objective way to get information. Well, he's certainly going to know more about prison now. And as a pedo he's going to have to be watching his back the whole time he's in there. The ironic part is he's going to have to run to a CO to get into protective custody so he doesn't get his ass beat or worse by the other inmates. The thought of him having to cry to a guy with a badge so the people he supported don't kill him fills me with joy.
