So when the claim is they're trying to handle sensitive issues by "showing how big corporations use people’s bodies against them", but are doing that by being a big corporation using people's bodies against them, it's a fragile effort at best and concerning at worst depending on who's doing it. This time, that's CDP/R.

Until they do bother to reach out and reassure the community they last spent time mocking and refusing to apologise to, I think it's perfectly fine to remain critical as to whether the final product will handle these things will nor do I feel they are from what little we've seen.

The polarization of the political climate was apparent, but IIRC moderation set out to try and protect conservative posters from the very beginning.

That's not true, it was really just me protecting all the conservative posters (I even tried sanctioning a Conservatism OT), and admin (Rowlf especially) had this kind of "anyone is welcome to post here as long as they don't post anything overtly racist etc." policy in theory, but mostly just in theory. What I mean by this is that everyone tried to operate within a framework of enforcing real rules, and so if someone was antagonizing a thread (I remember a poster who registered under the name TrumpTrain, lol), the question was "is this person breaking any specific rules", and if the answer is no then staff just resigned themselves to leaving them alone. So it was mostly just a "hands tied" kind of situation, not any commitment to ideological neutrality or whatever. Eventually Royalan and some other black posters complained that we should just lean into who we are, a "progressive forum with progressive values" (paraphrasing), which is why a few weeks in Cerium put out that huge statement that Resetera was unambiguously pro-LGBT, anti-racist, etc. That's also when the "fresh start" and "just treat everyone equally" rules receded fairly quickly and the primary goal was making sure Resetera was a vanguard operation in the video game forum world.
