Having just skimmed that story one thing sorta stood out to me, none of these people knew how to talk to each other, literally everything is done passively aggressively and privately putting burdens all on themselves or forming tiny sub groups instead of (unless I missed it) somebody going "hey wtf we gotta do this here thing" but instead they all go to therapy and get on meds in hopes that'll solve it while making lists or sharing things quietly lest anyone find out.
And there's how the whole thing started too:
In June of 2013 I was a typical struggling freelance animator, designer, and artist. Alec saw my tweets, which he thought were funny, and my animations, which I guess he thought were funny as well. He got in touch and asked if I’d ever wanted to make a video game. And of course I had. We spoke for the first time that very night.
...
I was a 32 year old artist who had struggled to make a living since I was 18. I had been married for almost a decade. I live in Pittsburgh. Alec was 29, a wealthy game developer coming off a huge success, living in a house with a bunch of other younger developers, in Vancouver. I knew little about Canada. Alec knew next to nothing about the US. I remember him asking me what the chances were that he would get shot if he visited Pittsburgh.
Scott Benson shouldn't be writing a tell-all attempting to both absolve himself and yet explain the situation away not because it's gauche, but because it shows he still doesn't understand why it fell apart. And even more, he doesn't understand why the suicide or the abuse wasn't his fault either.
It's because everyone these days on Twitter has self diagnosed PTSD (and everything else) that he can so casually fling around the claim that Alec has given gobs of people PTSD while there's practically no details on what exactly led to this that would fit the definition.
edit: that said, Alec does sound like he was potentially BPD, and it's not uncommon for them to resist their meds, nor are they easy to handle especially if you don't know the person like all the people in this story don't really seem to have known him, Alec just sorta dropping people and everything for periods sounds similar too
Benson's story is much more informative, even if unintentionally so, than Zoe's (there's a shocker) but I really wouldn't blame either of them at all for this (even if Zoe herself is potentially a serious mental case) and not sure I would even consider Zoe's post a trigger inherently, cases like this can be weird especially for everyone else who is thinking normally and can say oh it's this-this-and-this when maybe it was the soup can talking to you that was the real cause
