Still laughing about Nepathetic’s 7 year car loan. By the time she is done paying it off, that piece of shit will require more $ in maintenance than it will be worth.
Yeah, but if she doesn't put a lot of miles on it it'll be a decent asset.

That's why car loans aren't a great idea in the first place.  The second you drive it off the lot, it becomes "used" and starts losing value.  But if you are going to do it, dealerships will fall over themselves to get you in a loan at a decent rate, sometimes even zero interest for the first year or a couple thousand cash back to cover the originating costs.

The fact that her stepfather got her into a 7 year loan at 7% APR is just mind boggling.  A Versa only goes for about $15K, why are you extending that to 7 years with that interest rate?  You're paying an additional $4-5K for it, not to mention the additional cash you're going to have to put in after 3-4 years when things start breaking down on the car.

Also the picture of the car in her driveway shows that she lives in a pretty good neighborhood and her only sacrifice financially to get a brand new car is to cancel GamePass and not eat out as much.  And her previous car was a Lexus.  But MUH OPPRESSION!

eh i don't see an issue with a short term car loan on a used car that has decent resale. i got a loan on my VW (also $15k but at 2.4%) and it'll be paid in a couple years while still being pretty new.

7 years at 7% means either shit credit or someone is ripping them off :lol

I think they're probably gonna hit the undo button on that ban because they can't be blind to how it looks. I dunno if that would help anything at this point, but it would be something. I dunno what to do about all the shitty thread behavior aside from reporting it when I notice it.
Having one of the most confident, supportive and vocal advocates for mental health and trans people on the forum unbanned, were she to come back, would definitely help everything. I have my bones to pick with recent moderation trends but this is outside of that. I want her back because she was one of the most valuable assets those communities had in both being heard and being supported here. Categorically.

As for you and the reporting, thank you. Regular members who either support us vocally in threads, or report those that we have to endure, are much, much appreciated.

This sucks.

Ever since this site redesign happened and made it way more tedious to read threads let alone browse forums on mobile, my time in most non-Hangouts threads and Etc. in particular dropped off a cliff. I’ve felt really disconnected from these problems as a result, which is maybe better for my own health but not for staying aware of these problems and doing my part in those threads.

So it is unfortunate but unsurprising to see that the exact same issues have continued to happen, where people deal with shit for months, someone posts excellent - and not even particularly harsh - criticism of the staff, and then gets immediately banned. The reasons may have some merit, but it is always the immediate action, regardless of optics, when the criticism and discussion is often about how optics matter that makes it come across as cruel and uncaring (disclaimer: come across as, this is not an accusation of not caring about trans issues). And then more people who cared understandably leave in response, which only makes things worse.

I hope it is not violating rules/guidelines/whatever to say that this cycle absolutely should have been broken ages ago and the fact that it happened again should be a cause for concern. Any punishment just for people posting about that concern is literally perpetuating the problem. And if discontent has grown to the point that you have to make rules about it that now have people worried they’ll be banned for even slightly voicing that they feel increasingly uncomfortable, you have certainly not improved anything.

Happy trans awareness week.

It should also be pointed out that Mo’Nique is a modern meme queen and a lot of people don’t even know it.

I see so many people (even white people) using “The ___________ jumped out,” and “See, when you do clownery...sometimes, the clown comes back to bite” and not even know that was Mo. And those are just the two that immediately spring to mind

It was depressing and infuriating, watching how that thread played out, even for someone who isn't directly impacted by those issues on any personal level.

Hopefully those responsible for how that situation unfolded listen to why so many people took issue with it and change course soon. Part of the appeal of joining this place, having never been part of the original community, was the idea that this was a place where shit like that wouldn't ever be allowed to happen. Trans people have every right to human dignity and respect and until it's made clear by the staff that they'll be honoring that idea, through both words and actions, there should be no peace on that front.

Sooo, what is an acephobic comment then? Do we know what Royalan said?

Because in almost all other cases, bigoted comments usually take the form of hyperbolically exaggerating their sexual status.

But... how do you do that for someone who’s sexual status is nil? Only one is incel and that doesn’t really fit at all.

There are also chats that have been shown to people about a moderator on the staff talking in the discord about how Asexuals should not be a part of the LGBT+ community and instead of any challenging or talking through, was essentially told that people could see where they were coming from, to not feel bad, and then dropped.

There´s a lot of actual discrimination with ace people
Quote
Excluding groups such as Asexuals from the LGBT+ community because "they aren't discriminated against enough," is, frankly, ridiculous. Alongside ignoring the discrimination that aces do face it turns the LGBT+ community from a support group defined by those within it to an anti-discrimination group defined solely by who the bigots approve of.

And as an ace myself I can say that, no, my life is not the equivalent of a straight person's life even if I'm bi-romantic and, as such, have the 'ability' to date a woman and appear straight. There's a fairly significant chance that I will die alone; I have never, and will never, be able to relate to one of the largest parts of most human lives; and the fact that I'm not in a partnership will be a financial and social burden for my entire damned life. That doesn't somehow 'go away' just because I'm not actively called out on the streets by bigots, and it's incredibly tiring seeing people try to dismiss those like me from one of the biggest support groups on the planet.
Quote
A lot of people think that aces and aros don't actually exist.

It's annoying enough when cishet people do it, but I once had another member of the LGBT community say that I don't belong in the community because 'asexuality is just some made-up tumblr bullshit'.

(Of course the irony being is that I'm also trans and homoromantic so like even if I wasn't ace, I'd still be part of the community regardless???)
Quote
I’ve encountered other people who were LGBT who have acted like asexuality either doesn’t exist or were a threat to the community, using methods like calling them predators or accusing them of trying to co-opt the queer identity.
Quote
It's very similar to suggesting a trans person in a bathroom is there to molest people or that people pretend to be a part of a group to invade and do harmful things.

It's almost like most of these people who think this way are also obviously TERFs.
