Cool to see 2010 propped up as the pinnacle of FPS times. Back then it was said FPS games lost their way since Quake 3, UT, Counter Strike 1.6, and BF1942. In 10 years people will be longing for the days of Fortnite and whatever else is in at the moment.

The point of the video is that a certain type of FPS game is over.

He mentions how Halo Reach, COD Black Ops and Battlefield Bad Company 2 all dropped in the same year and were massive hits and when it happened again with COD Vanguard, HALO Infinite and BF 2042 it was a dud.
FPS games now either go back to the 'boomer shooter' roots, include RPG or adventure elements(DOOM: Eternal) or they are Battle Royal or Hero shooter games. Most studios and developers no longer bother with HALO or COD 'killers' like they used to.

They will come back when my age group is 40 and now Halo is the boomer shooter.

I'm always surprised at the overall poor coding of many Nintendo EAD games of that era but their struggles during the SNES era to keep up are well documented.
Miyamoto was quite displeased that Rareware was outmatching them with the likes of Donkey Kong Country and from A Link to the Past and Yoshi's Island to Mario 64 is quite a leap one might say.

In fact it always reminds of a rumor that has persisted for years.
Argonaut games pitched Nintendo an idea for a Yoshi 3D platformer and Miyamoto used their idea to rework the camera system and gameplay of Mario 64 late in development because Nintendo's own concept wasn't working well.
It is unclear what that original concept was, some say it was isometric while other rumors state it started as a first person game.

Argonaut would change their Yoshi platformer to Croc for PlayStation, PC and Saturn but Mario 64 beat them to market by about a year.
This was even backed up by the founder of Argonaut who went on to say that Miyamoto even personally thanked him for the idea. He also said that Nintendo basically reused much of the code of Starfox 2 to make Starfox 64.
They also hired some Argonaut devs with 3D experience which probably explains how they managed to get up to speed with 3D tech so quickly.
