Ys IX: Monstrum Nox-Honestly, one of my favorite recent JRPGS. Say what you will about the graphics and presentation, but the movement and traversal abilities were really fresh feelings for a jrpg. Summoning feelings of Gravity Rush and Crackdown with the movement abilities. Not only that, but the level design was strong and kept the abilities useful. Story had some neat meta twists vibe to it and as always the gameplay is solid.
Bravely Default 2-I'm less positive on this. Yeah, the gameplay is good and the job system feeds into methodical stat thinking. But I mean outside of that it's pretty meh. It's not clever. It does the stupid fake ending crap that seems popular with Japanese games now, but without any real point. The story, world, and characters were very bland. The presentation, art direction, and voice acting all hit the style they are going for, but it's in service of a rather dry atmosphere that really does not excel.
