I don't want to die but I don't want to be alive either.

Three way tie.

Yay:

+ Sis and I came roaring back to Vegas in style. Spent an entire week doing everything we wanted, and maybe even spent too much... :P
+ After more than a decade of self-doubt, I really started to believe in myself and my own decision-making. 😤
+ My dog and I are closer than ever and I love her so much. :heartbeat
+ Was more zen than ever this year. 8)

Nay:

- Being zen is hard. I still break down and lash out too much. To be fair to me, starting since I got back from Vegas in September I'd say I'm under an objectively unsustainable amount of stress. 🤷‍♂️
- Had two physical altercations with two different family members, the first such of my life. As a pacifist, I do not punch back. I've had to balance dealing with these people on an ongoing basis and the lengths to which my forgiveness can be stretched. :-\
- Paused my media production company stuff to focus on building skills in a different industry. I might not be able to turn the lights back on for a while and that's a bummer. :fbm
- Started backsliding on learning piano also starting in September, but I plan on doubling back down in 2 weeks (already paid for my next 5 lessons). 🎹

Gay:

~ My three-year dry spell came to an end (literally!) in Vegas. :aah
~ Still wasn't ready for a relationship but I realized that will likely change in 2023. :-*
~ Marriage equality has been enshrined into US law. On that, I'm proud of my country. :american

Overall: A pretty mid year after a couple really bad ones. I guess I'll take it, at the end of the day I believe I'm still on a good track.

Decade-ish Recap

2013:
Decent year. 2012 felt a lot better, but that was because I had moved out of my parent's place all on my own, from a small CT farm town to the big city basically overnight. Then I worked at three different places (third place I'm still at.) I felt much more accomplished.

2014: N/A

2015:
OVERALL: This year was a lot gayer. :supergay

2016:
Overall: 2016 was going great for me until the one-two punch of the election and my work issues. Still, I feel I've personally grown a lot and made many pivotal advancements. 2017 is going to be built on some pretty solid foundations I think. 😁

2017:
This is the year I finally moved into full adulthood, which has its pros and cons. I'm scared of what's to come, but I'm just as excited. Overall, I end 2017 feeling much more hopeful and enthusiastic than 2016, but to be fair that year mostly just ended on a downer.

2018:
Nay. Been probably the worst year on record for me.

Lots of great individual moments though, and I still have a lot to be happy about, but yeah. Objective suckage.

2019:
Extremely hard nay.

2020:
Literally everything else: Nay as fuck.

2021:
Overall:

YAY
  • New job is not perfect, but still rewarding and challenging
  • Airline retireee friend facilitated two business class trips fro Japan to USA nearly for a pittance
  • Started exercising and dieting, and lost 7kg without trying anything excessive
  • Started reflecting on my life with the help of a Buddhist monk, leading to stronger anger management ability, and improved self control
  • Spent more meatspace time with local friends, and feel less lonely

NAY
  • Summer trip to California which would prove my ability to annually work remotely from a different timezone (and avoiding Japan's summer) instead showed my ability to catch COVID
  • Omicron and BA whatever meant that my planned monthly trips to the studio in Tokyo never manifested, and only a December trip happened
  • COVID brain fog stayed with me for over a month, and was serioiusly scary and not fun
  • Drank so much during my Christmas trip home that I've lost the taste for it and have not had a drink since January 1 — possibly a YAY
  • Starting to panic about retirement funds; my mom retired at my age — boomers sure managed to sabotage that option for everyone after them

GAY
  • Two friends discovered they are trans, and I'm supporting them to the best of my ability; there's a long road to go before this is mainstream accepted, but considering where awareness was in my youth, we have made stunning progress in the last 10 years
